What’s new in Enterprise Architect 17

Explore the latest release of Enterprise Architect — a leading platform for modeling, software and systems development, enterprise architecture, and digital transformation.

Enterprise Architect 17 marks a major evolution in modeling, architecture planning, system engineering, and enterprise transformation. Built to support growing digital ecosystems, version 17 brings sharper modeling accuracy, modern UI enhancements, improved accessibility, and next-generation capabilities for Data Engineering, MBSE, and Enterprise Architecture.

Whether you’re working on software design, systems engineering, or enterprise-wide architecture initiatives, Enterprise Architect 17 helps you model with confidence, collaborate at scale, and accelerate delivery.

Model-based Perspective Sets— focused UIs from your models

Enterprise Architect 17 lets you tailor modeling by role, project, or discipline.

  • Create model patterns and publish packages as Perspectives.
  • Enable role-specific toolboxes, ribbons, and diagram sets via security profiles.
  • Apply perspectives by security groups or let users switch.
  • Use built-in accelerators for APM, Business Capability Modeling, and Technology Portfolio Management.

Data Warehouse Schemas and Enterprise Data Warehousing

Database modeling now supports leading cloud warehouses and analytical platforms

  • Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, Snowflake, Teradata, Hadoop, Spark, CouchDB, MongoDB, Pentaho and traditional DBMS.
  • Use tech-specific UML profiles with DDL constructs.
  • Import or generate DDL.
  • Includes Data Warehousing perspective, layered diagrams, toolboxes, model patterns and visualization image sets.

Time-Aware Modeling and baseline comparison

Model evolution is now easier and more traceable.

  • Use Timelines to create snapshots of diagrams, packages and elements.
  • Create diagram and package snapshots, clone packages, and compare packages across files, native connections, ODBC and cloud models.
  • Core and Full element snapshots provide granular visibility, with improved package control and baseline comparison for better audit and traceability.

Smarter diagramming — placement, guides and drag-and-drop

Enterprise Architect 17 adds enhanced guidance tools for faster, cleaner modeling.

  • Improved snap points (midpoint, match width/height), visual guides and edge/center snapping.
  • Smart Placement improves multi-select snapping, spacing and guide display.
  • New drag-and-drop actions: add conveyed items, triggers, entry/do/exit behavior, operations or signals, and split/rejoin connectors.

External data integration (SBPI) and connected toolchains

Enterprise Architect 17 expands integration to connect seamlessly with external repositories and enterprise data.

  • The revamped SBPI UI improves navigation across external providers.
  • Link full folder hierarchies from third-party tools, attach snapshot images of EA diagrams to external items, add WebEA hyperlinks, and run bulk bi-directional synchronization with conflict resolution.

Profile authoring and MDG import improvements

Enterprise Architect 17 boosts extensibility with:

  • Improved Profile Helper support for blank/False values and automatic unique Profile ID generation when publishing UML profiles.
  • A new “Import Package as MDG Technology” option bundles profiles, toolbox and diagram profiles.
  • Further updates refine shape scripts, traceability and Quicklinker behavior and improves overall usability.

Code Miner and automation

EA 17 introduces the Code Miner API for advanced code import and analysis.

  • Delegate calls to the internal code miner engine and manage node sets efficiently.
  • Implement MFQL queries, actions and ICMLoadDatabase functions for richer insight and automated validation.
  • Works with JavaScript and model add-ins to accelerate processing, streamline exploration and support continuous engineering workflows.

Visual theme, accessibility and standards

Enterprise Architect 17 introduces a refreshed visual identity and enhanced accessibility.

  • A new Office 2022 visual theme is available from the Start ribbon under Application Look, offering a cleaner interface.
  • Windows Narrator support improves dialog and tree or list navigation.
  • VPAT 2.5 self-assessment is completed, covering WCAG 2.2, Revised Section 508 and EN 301 549 compliance.
